Ontruck, the on-demand logistics platform for short-haul road freight, is celebrating its 1,000th UK shipping consignment since expanding into the country in 2017.
Founded in Madrid in 2016, Ontruck opened in London last September as its first international operation and is on track to expand into Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow during 2018.
Since Ontruck’s UK debut, the company has completed more than 80,000 loaded miles, shipping palletised goods for manufacturers, retailers and freight forwarders via a rapidly growing base of more than 200 carriers.
The company’s cloud-based booking platform and mobile app connects shippers and carriers quickly and easily, improving price-competitiveness and flexibility for those sending freight and boosting vehicle utilisation and convenience for road hauliers.
Notable Ontruck UK shipments to date have included transporting Hawkeye, the electronic ball-tracking system, from the Wimbledon tennis championships to Heathrow Airport, and delivering more than half a million litres of water for a single customer in a month.
Ontruck’s CEO and co-founder Íñigo Juantegui says: "In 2017, we consolidated Ontruck’s position in Spain, where we already handle more than 5,000 consignments a month, and took the important step of expanding into the UK, one of Europe’s biggest road freight markets. We’re very encouraged by the positive response in the UK, which confirms that the road freight industry has been waiting for the price transparency and convenience that Ontruck offers.”
Leading Ontruck’s UK expansion is country managing director David Jennison, who joined with substantial on-demand business experience from companies including Deliveroo and Amazon.
Jennison says: "London and the South East were the natural entry point for Ontruck in the UK. The excellent response we’ve had to date creates a strong bridgehead for us to expand into new UK regions in the coming months. Ontruck offers a true win-win for shippers and carriers and we’re excited about the growth opportunities ahead.”
Ontruck is committed to making the lives of shippers and carriers easier and more profitable. The flexibility provided by the platform means that small road haulage companies can expand their operations, achieve more consistent volumes across the year and make more rewarding journeys. Ontruck’s transparency allows shippers to feel confident, with carefully vetted carriers available to deliver their goods at a competitive price, underpinned by the reassurance of real-time vehicle tracking.
